Karen Hilton appointed new CEO of heycar UK

Online car-buying platform heycar UK has promoted its chief commercial officer Karen Hilton to chief executive, with Mat Moakes becoming CCO of the heycar group.

The company said the changes were part of a move to “further accelerate its growth in the UK and across Europe” and sees the former director of Carwow and head of marketing communications at Volkswagen UK Hilton take the helm of the UK business.

Hilton, who joined the company in 2019, stepped up after a planned six-month transition period. She said: “We’ve established tremendous momentum in the UK, a super-focused management team and a great culture for our team. I can’t wait to steer this rocket through its next phase.

“In the three years we have operated, we have faced a pandemic, a structural change in the supply network, and now the UK is facing the economic headwinds of a recession.

“So if there is any challenge ahead of my role as CEO, I know it will continue to overcome the lingering uncertainty and ambiguity. The automotive and technology industry, however, has also seen crucial changes. since the COVID pandemic – the way we work and the way we consume goods has changed and that change is here to stay.

Originally launched in the UK as a classified marketplace, heycar has since launched an e-commerce option for customers and claims to have the largest selection of cars available to buy online (17,000 currently available).

The company has built a growing network of exclusive business partnerships with Parkers, BuyaCar, Regit and others in the UK and has expanded overseas with launches in Spain, France and the Netherlands over the of the last 18 months.

Moakes, who was CEO of heycar UK since its launch in 2019, will now aim to create a more international organization and grow the heycar business across Europe in his new role.

Hilton said: “With all of these changes come opportunities such as the potential for new routes to market. We’ve already seen our e-commerce business grow sixfold since the end of 2021, showing that some people are 100% ready to buy a car online. – but also the opportunity to work differently and attract new talent to heycar.

“To deal with this, we will continue to be bold, take risks on new trends and differentiate ourselves from historical players in the industry.”
