LONDON: The Consulate General of Pakistan in Manchester, in collaboration with the Pakistan Britain Business Council (PBBC), with the support of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, organized a conference titled “Pakistan; A Land of Opportunities’ in Manchester on January 27, 2022.
The event was attended by Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK Moazzam Ahmad Khan, Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Pakistan MP Mark Eastwood, PBBC Chairman Julian Hamilton Barns, Senior Adviser Campbell Kier among others also noted British Pakistani entrepreneur Aneel Musarrat. as officials and members of the office of the Business Council, the High Commission and the Consulate General.
Addressing the Conference, the High Commissioner highlighted the reforms undertaken by Pakistan to facilitate a business-friendly environment.
The High Commissioner said the UK was Pakistan’s strategic partner. This partnership was deepening through growing ties in various fields. The United Kingdom, the third largest export market for Pakistani products, accounted for about 8% of Pakistan’s global exports.
The High Commissioner noted that in 2021, despite the pandemic, Pakistan’s exports to the UK increased by 33%, crossing the US$2 billion mark for the first time.
Moazzam Ahmad said Pakistan’s GDP, despite the pandemic, grew by 5.37% in 2020-21, the second highest growth in 14 years.
The Prime Minister’s trade envoy to Pakistan, MP Mark Eastwood, has shown a keen desire to improve the existing trade and investment relationship between Pakistan and the UK.
MP Mark Eastwood has announced that he will soon visit Pakistan with a trade delegation to explore further opportunities to improve bilateral trade. He further said that he was a supporter of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Pakistan and the UK and wanted to see progress made in this direction.
PBBC Chairman Julian Hamilton Barns gave a presentation highlighting business opportunities in Pakistan.
A large number of business people, as well as notables from the community, participated in the event.
