Live budget session: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is due to respond to the vote of thanks at the President’s speech at Lok Sabha in the evening. On Friday, opposition Lok Sabha members proposed 98 amendments to the vote of thanks on the president’s speech, while those in the Rajya Sabha proposed 80 amendments.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday asked AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi to accept Category Z security, mentioning that according to the government’s assessment, the MP for Hyderabad still faces a security threat. Speaking to Rajya Sabha about the attack on Owaisi on his way back from Hapur to Delhi last week, Shah said: “The Home Ministry immediately took the report from the state government. Based on previous inputs from central security agencies, the Center had ordered to provide him with security. But due to his reluctance to avail himself of security, efforts by the Delhi and Telangana police to secure him safety were unsuccessful.
Speaking about the President’s speech in Parliament, senior Congress official Anand Sharma told the Rajya Sabha: “It is not sarcasm, but whoever wrote it (the President’s speech) does the president an injustice. It defies the judgment of the people and negates the difficult situation in front of the country.”
