Members of Congress underscored the strategic nature of Egypt-US relations during the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the 27th UN Climate Change Conference (COP27), which runs from November 6-18, according to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
Shoukry highlighted the strategic relations between Egypt and the United States in various fields, stressing Egypt’s keenness to continue strengthening these relations at all levels.
Members of Congress hailed Egypt’s hosting of COP27, expressing hope that the conference will produce the desired outcome to achieve global climate action goals.
Shoukry, who is also the President of COP27, underscored the great commitment between the Egyptian and American parties at the climate summit during a series of official meetings, at the top of which was the Mountain peak between President Abdel-Fattah El-Sissi and President Joe Biden.
The meeting also discussed a number of international issues, in particular the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and its economic implications.
President Biden made his first visit to Egypt on Friday since taking office in January 2021 and discussed US-Egyptian strategic relations, regional and international issues of common concern, and human rights with President El- Yes Yes.
At the climate summit, Biden said the United States, European Union and Germany would provide a $500 million package to fund and facilitate Egypt’s transition to clean energy to help the country to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 10%.
Biden also announced a Distribution in the United States $150 million to accelerate adaptation in Africa to save millions of lives and their livelihoods.
The United States and Germany have also pledged more than $250 million to support Egypt’s energy pillar Nexus on Water, Food and Energy (NWFE) financing program for eco-responsible projects.
Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi also met El-Sissi at the summit on Thursday, during which she hailed Egypt’s effective role in countering terrorism and extremist thought, reforming religious discourse and establishing lofty values of freedom of belief, tolerance and justice. ‘acceptance.
